TEN YEARS OF COOPERATION BETWEEN SANT’ANNA SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY OF CHONGQING: RECTOR SABINA NUTI AND PISA CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERS DISCUSS THEIR COMMITMENT TO GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT

Sant’Anna School Rector Sabina Nuti and University of Chongqing Vice-President Ming Ju (centre- picture attached) celebrated the tenth anniversary of their collaboration in Pisa. The Confucius Institute at Sant’Anna School hosted an event to recognize the successful bilateral collaboration between Italy and China, which was launched in 2004 to promote comprehensive strategic partnership and research cooperation activities. In 2020, Italy and China will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

Attending the event were academic staff members and the Confucius Institute Advisory Board members including Alberto Di Minin and Huang Yunlin, as the directors of the Institute in Pisa, together with Anna Di Toro (Università per Stranieri of Siena), and Francesco Marcelloni (University of Pisa) as the members of the faculty from Tuscany universities who have contributed to the partnership. Sant’Anna School Professor Andrea Mina, delivered an address on the development of programs that promote global cooperation. Xiang Hong and Wang Guixie spoke of joint projects in the field of Data Science and Smart City with a focus on Biomedical Engineering applications.

During the meeting, Rector Sabina Nuti and Vice-President Ming Ju celebrated the successful experience of the Galileo Galilei Institute in Chongqing and shared personal insights regarding their commitment to global engagement as the core of their educational mission.

Lorenzo Gonzo, as the scientific attaché at the Consulate of Italy in Chongqing, delivered his keynote speech over a video conference session. Gonzo underlined our path for the future recommending a set of strategies and initiatives to increase the Sant’Anna School’s presence and impact in the China arena. Over the coming years, Sant’Anna School eminent scholars, as highly qualified experts, will be working at a variety of sites in China to complete their research projects, with the aim of fostering international cooperation in key areas such as biotechnology and digital economy with a more focused engagement on international and educational affairs.
